The CAMA Festival 2010 is produced in partnership with World Population Foundation (WPF) and, specifically, with Dance4life program. Dance4life is a dynamic international initiative, which actively involves young people and gives them a powerful voice in response to the spread of HIV and AIDS as well as the stigma and taboos that surround it. Dance4life uses dance, music and youth icons to attract young people and talk to them in their own language, encouraging them to learn more about HIV and AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights. All proceeds from CAMA Festival 2010 will go directly to support and further Dance4life’s activities in Vietnam.

The CAMA Festival will include a spectacular line up of artists from Vietnam, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines and China. In addition, there will be a non-stop DJ tent, a wide variety of international food and drinks, and entertainment and games throughout the day for adults and children alike. On the main stage, the rock bands are: Dengue Fever (USA), Molice (Japan), Queen Sea Big Shark (China), Up Dharma Down (Philippines), Red Bantoo (Australia), Ngu Cung (Vietnam) and Recycle (Vietnam).

With over 40 releases to his name, Stringfellow has forged a reputation as one notable alternative rock/power-pop icon – an adaptable and prolific guitarist, who has played thousands of live shows in some 40 countries across six continents over the last 20 years, including headline slots from Glastonbury to Rio, both solo, as frontman of iconic Seattle rockers The Posies, and as a member of legendary acts such as R.E.M. and Big Star.

Hot on the heels of dates in Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines on his current Southeast Asian tour, Ken will be bringing his unique talents to HCMC and Hanoi, joining forces with local promoters C.A.M.A. and the Saigon Sound System for two intimate solo performances at HCMC’s CAGE and Hanoi Cinematheque (supported by local songsmith Joshua Lee) on January 28 and 30.

In a pitched battle for stage supremacy, the third incarnation of the festival sets Saigon stalwarts Bad Neighbour against northern noise-mongers the Offensive, topped off by the first-ever Vietnam performance by the undisputed leaders of China’s rock revolution P.K.14.

P.K.14 band

Flagged by Time Magazine as one of the top 5 bands to watch in Asia, P.K.14 are the undisputed leaders of China’s new wave, the raw, beating heart of a new generation of rock revolutionaries. “Loud, raw and searching – theirs is the sound of modern China” (Time magazine). Since forming in Nanjing back in 1997, the band has recorded four albums, played innumerable live shows around China and the world, and influenced almost every act to emerge from Beijing’s grimy underbelly over the past five years. Drawing comparisons to everyone from Pixies to the Smiths to the Stooges, PK14 are at once thoughtful, wild and uncompromising – making for an unmissable introduction to the middle kingdom’s vibrant musical underground.

Bad Neighbour band

An audience favourite in HCMC for over four years, Bad Neighbour have morphed from Latin rock band to well-oiled punk machine for the two Hey Ho Let’s Go punk festivals held to date. Led by Argentinian singer and guitarist Claudio Duek (the man behind the original Hey Ho concept), with singers John Forster (UK), Dave (AU) and Chi (VN), guitarist Duy (VN), bass player Phuong (VN), and drummer Win (VN), the band delivers a high intensity set of punk rock favourites guaranteed to leave you begging for more.

The Offensive band

Rocking the north for almost 10 years, the Offensive were founded in 2001 as an answer to the polite acoustic groups that made up the then music scene in the capital. Featuring vocalist Paul Gilchrest (former lead singer of seminal Australian punk act Exploding White Mice), along with Dave Payne on guitar (AU), Ha Dinh Huy (VN) on drums and Steve Christensen (US) on bass, the band capture the spirit of the early punk rock days, making it impossible to escape an Offensive show without your ears ringing, covered in beer and soaked in sweat.

Hey Ho Let’s Go III promises an all-stops-out aural assault not to be forgotten – Saigon, you have been warned!

Gaining a lot of support from rock fans for its prequels “Dark Night” and “Dark Night Returns”, this time “Dark Night III – Metal Alive” is determined to burn through with pure Death Metal style. This show is executed by Tan Binh Culture JSC, F-event and sponsored by SoundMax, as a tribute to the departed rockers: Chuck Schuldiner, Darrell Abbott… who had a lot of contribution to the Metal world.

Many unforgettable moments of Chuck at Dynamo Open 1998 is to be projected at “Dark Night III – Metal Alive”. It is undoubtedly one of the biggest Open Air rock festivals of all time. Also, the DVD “Death – Live in Eindhoven ‘98″ which was released to raise fund for Chuck’s cancer treatment will be on at the show while “Death – Live in Los Angeles” will bring metalheads to one of his last shows. The underground, sudden inspired images of “Red Beard” in “Cowboys From Hell”, “Corpse” in Columbia, Kataklysm in Germany….or the passionate images of rock fans in “Dark Night I” and “II” will be seen.

13/12/2001: Chuck Schuldiner, the legendary man of death metal, passed away. His death is one of the most tragic loss of the Metal world.

8/12/2004: Darrell Abbott, the famous guitarist of Pantera, was shot by a crazy fan when performing at a bar.

After 2 years preparing for his own plan, Pham Anh Khoa exploded with the second album “Lam sao noi het” at the same time with a live concert 2009. He said: “I hope this gig will be a real rock show in a rock echo of about 7000 people”.

On Oct, 24, at Tao Dan stadium, Pham Anh Khoa will perform about 18 rock songs. They are Tro ve ngay xa xua, which is very familiar with YanTV listeners or “Lam sao noi het”, “Co quen” and “Throw away”…

This show marks 3 years of professional singing career of Mr.PAK. Special guests of this show are 2 famous rock band : Unlimited and Microwave.

The producer claimed that this concert was prepared very carefully from artists to acoustic system and background but the price ticket is cheap, about 50k VND and just 30k VND for students.

Brief Introduction of Rock Band in the Show:

THE BLUE VAN

With 04 albums releases and more than 500 show performances around Europe and America, Blue Van is no doubt to be loved as the most experiened and outstanding Blue Alternative ever. The four members of Blue Van have grown in a region of North Denmark, 500km from Copenhagen. They have played together for such long time, from the sixth grade. Their music is inspired by other bands like Small Faces, Cream and The Pretty Things.

THE BLUE VAN band

The Band consists of 4 members: Steffen Westmark (vocalist and guitarist), øren Christensen (keyboard), Allan Villadsen (bass), Per Jørgenson (drum) and the manager Mette Zähringer.

PENTATONIC

Pentatonic’s songs are kind of Progressive Rock, basing on the Vietnamese ethnic minority peoples’ music. This has been popular from the time of Rock Your Passion Competition 2007, when Pentatonic won the first prize. Pantatonic targets to develop Vietnamese Traditional and folk music via Progressive Rock. Their first album “365000” has been released in June 2009, in which the sound of the Meo Flute of H’Mong Peoples, and the choir of little kids are considered as the special spicies.

Members of Pentatonic: Hoang Hiep (vocalist), Hung Cuong( drum), Tran Thang (guitarist, composer), Duc Long (keyboard), Minh Duc (bass) and manager Thanh Ha.

SILENT

Popular as the most excellent band of the Central, majoring in Melodic Death Metal, the Band ranged position 4th among the best players in Rock Your Passion rock show competition. Silent is also popular in rock shows in big cities as well as universities, attracting thousands of youth fans.

The five member of Silent are: Le Viet Tuyen (guitarist, vocalist), Le Van Phap ( guitarist), Tran Trung Hieu (keyboard, vocalist), Do Dang Nguyen Vu (drum), Nguyen Tan Duc (bass).

UNLIMITED

Winning the second prize in competition Rock Your Passion 2007, Unlimited is famous for Melodic Death, Power, and Progressive Metal songs. Also in 2007, the band won the first prize for the best song and best guitarist in the competition Super Bands Festival, dedicated to bands of all kind of music in the whole country. August 2008, Unlimited became the first ever band performing together with the Ho Chi Minh City symphony orchestra. The band has completed 5 video clips and 2 album CD Regeneration (2007), and DVD Unlimited Symphony (2009).
