Formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica have become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums and playing to millions of fans all over the world. They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1991’s Metallica (commonly referred to as “The Black Album”).

Their latest album, Death Magnetic, was certified platinum just six weeks after it debuted atop the Billboard Top 200 Album chart in October 2008. Death Magnetic charted at No. 1 in 32 countries. They played eight shows to nearly 180,000 fans at the Sports Arena in Mexico City. Later that month the band performed four shows on the same stage in Canada, two in Edmonton and two in Vancouver, during which they shot their upcoming Nimród Antal directed 3D Feature Film, Through The Never, which will be released in 2013.

  • Lita Ford Rocks the Iridium in New York City With the Les Paul Trio

The queen of metal became a queen of blues for one night only at the Iridium club when Lita Ford played two sets with the Les Paul Trio. In addition to shredding on some cool covers, Ford broke out a couple of her best-known hits.

Up until his death in 2009 at the age of 94, Les Paul would play the Iridium every Monday night with his Trio. In tribute to the guitar great, the Trio continues to play every Monday with guest musicians. We recently covered Zakk Wylde’s gig with the Les Paul Trio, and this past Monday night (June 24) was Lita Ford’s turn.

Following an opening set of classic tunes by the Les Paul Trio, Lita made her way out on the stage to join them and showed off her guitar and vocal chops on a handful of blues and jazz covers, including a take on B.B. King’s ‘The Thrill Is Gone.’ But of course, the highlights of the set for Ford’s diehard fans in attendance were the unique takes on her classic hits ‘Close My Eyes Forever’ and ‘Kiss Me Deadly,’ the latter of which had the crowd singing and clapping along.
