In the first time in southeast asia, rock bands mingled with symphonic bands, present in one live show, which makes both organizers and audiences confident and worried.

Rock in Vietnam is as hitherto considered the style “specialize” in screaming and roaring in an extreme way. In the rock show as usual, success or failure depends on the audiences in front of the stage, whether they jump up and down, up and down or not. On the other hand, the audiences in symphonic orchestra always sit in silence, and they will only clap their hands after each successful song.

On 09/0802008, in Nguyen Du sporting event hall ( 1 district, HCM city), these two styles ,deemed to be opposite against each other, will be brought together in one live show Unlimited Symphony, in order to offer the audiences the most impressive experience about rock and symphony.

HCM city Symphonic orchestra and the band Umlimited –the combination of rock and symphony in the show.

Rock together with symphony is far from new throughout the world. since  1969, the Deep Purple had become the first band, pioneering this style when playing with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. 30years ago, it was also Deep Purple who aroused the hearts of Rockers when performing with London orchestra.

Up to now, the audiences haven’t forgot the images of the “tycoons” of Kiss, tying tightly with Melbourne orchestra in Kiss symphony show 2003. Also, the bands Metallica, scorpions, the talented guitarists Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen has marked their names in rock symphony , much convincingly.

“In Vietnamese Rock, the experiences when we put rock and symphony together is the risk-taking one. But the risk is worth it” said Hoang Diep Dr, the performing centre diredtor.

In terms of musical traits, despite the fact that rock usually use many musical instruments, it is considered to be “soft” music. And vice versa towards symphony. To intergrate between the two is the big issue, and how it is going to be solved. Mrs Hoang Diep continued “The rock bands will have to be more tender and we will have to be more fanatic”

Minh Quan, a member of Unlimited and an American composer Dirk Johan Stromberg will manage the music. The burden of controlling the two orchestra will be shouldered by artist Do Kien Cuong, who has just graduated from Brooklyn university (America) with Master degree. At the age of 34, this man will clear up a thorny problem, and at the same time lead one symphonic orchestra and one rock band

Vietnamese audiences have known a non-verbal orchestra for film during the days in Europe, organized by European delegation and Goethe Academy. However, this will be the first time the audiences are offered the chance to experience one non-verbal orchestra for film first hand, 100 percent made by “the black head”, not “the yellow hair”.

The last involvement of the show is included in the celebrated performance Hon Vong Phu written by Le Thuong and renewed to progressive style. With the duration of 20 min, it is treated is the most special performance.

Blending in one live show, the organizers have put 4 difficult experiences, consequently confronted many challenges in running the orchestra. The ideal atmosphere for a rock show is the stadium, which is opposite to the place for the orchestra. The work of balancing the electronic instruments is becoming harder and harder to take exception to.

Answering the journalists in the press conference, Mr Phuong Huy, the director of Da Lua company, said :” Rock has many styles and it ‘s not that all of them can intergrate with symphony. However, the metal rock style, which has got significantly influenced by western music, will be mixed with symphony in an easier way. We decided to choose Unlimited due to this reason, as well as their capabilities.

All the things lie ahead. We will wait for the day to come, the day when HCM city music institute and the leading Vietnamese rock band will play with their zeal and passion.
